The Micrion VECTRA 986+ is a focused ion beam instrument that uses gas-assisted etching and beam-induced deposition. It is used for IC circuit edit, which allows for debugging of microchip designs and accessing internal data of security and encryption microcontrollers.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. announced that it has completed its acquisition of FEI Company, the leader in high-performance electron microscopy.
FEI Co. completed its acquisition of Micrion Corp., a developer and provider of focused ion beam systems for semiconductor mask repair and device edit applications.
